My father,
Waldemar Erwin Repke, is writing a book about his life in the Gaj, Rippin, Randomin area. He was born on March 26, 1935 in Gaj near Rippin and Radomin. His father was Friedrich Repke (born in Gaj, May 3 1906, died at the Russian front in 1945). His mother was Amalia Dickau ( born in Dec 27, 1911 in Somsiory and died April 1, 1946, buried in a cemetery in Gaj, apparently this cemetery is no longer there). His grandparents were Wilhelm Repke(b May 29 ,1859 in Gaj, d 1944 Gaj) and Emilie Schiemann (not sure dates of her birth or death) and on his mother's side; Karl Dickau ( b 13 feb 1868 in Podole d 6 Oct 1957 Lunzen) and Karoline Czarski (b. 14 Sept 1871 Swierzebnia, Krs. Rippen Poland d. June 5 1965 Lunzen). His great grandparents were Adam Dickau and Anna Teske, and John Czarski and Euphrosyne Golke. On his father's side Jan Repke and Kystina Abram and Paul Schiemann and Elisabeth Brabant.
Looking for information on the Repke/Dickau/Schiemann/ Czarski families and about the area around Gaj from 1930 to 1945.

The above mentioned cities and villages, situated in the so-called LAND OF DOBRIN, belonged to POLAND (to Germany from 1786 to 1806 and from 1939 to 1945 [Nazi occupation] ), see http://www.kerntopf.com/dobrin/ . For further questions see dobriner-land-l(at)genealogy(dot)net

Thank you Joachim, do you have any suggestions on how can get proof of my great grandfather's (Wilhelm Repke) parents names. I believe they are Jan Repke and Krystina Abrams. I have connected with a Repke family in Cleveland, Ohio and am attempting to figure out if we have a common ancestor in Jan Repke. If I could find a birth certificate of Wilhelm Repke (Dob 29 May 1859, Dod 1944), I could determine the name of his parents. His son Friedrich was my grandfather and he died at the Russian Front in WW2 in January of 1945.

Hello Carol,
I regret that I do not follow the inputs in “Westpreussen Forum” regularly. My family in USA motivated me again to find out more about the Gaj area. This is why I found your input in that forum. I can tell you that the names you mentioned are almost all familiar to me like Brabant, Schiemann, Dickau. Even the name “Repke” sounds familiar. In 2003 I began to be busy with the family research about Gaj, because my relatives in USA wanted to know the site where the father of my mother’s cousin was born. This was easy in internet, but it was difficult to find their former property, the farm of the family Edling resp. Albrecht. I have collected a lot of records about marriages, cases of death or baptism. Then in 2003 I began to go there by bus to Torun, from there I went by countrybus to the area, where my mother’s family once lived until they were expelled in Winter 1945. I was walking, in the third year I had a foldable bicycle that I easily could take into the small countrybus from Torun to Rypin (you called it Rippen) or Radomin. But, what I want to tell you is, that the Albrecht’s farm (after the daughter Caroline Edling married an Albrecht/ my mother’s side) was one of the biggest farms there in Gaj. Unfortunately it happened that they lost the land. A family named Dickau auctioned it. Now, yesterday, I found out in internet that the property and several other manors in that area were divided after the last war. And I found out that the German settlers had an own evangelical cemetery. Though I went past there in 2004 or 2005, I did overlook it. I had no idea, thought the bigger cemetery close to Radomin (the street short after Radomin to Piorkowo turn to the left) was the only one in that area.

I am very interested in the book, that your father wanted to write. I hope, everything went well and he could finish it. Thank You so very much for a reply. I hope your email-address has not changed.
